------------------------------------------------- http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=13066 pacific question ------------------------------------------------- Latenight Express who exceed 10GB during free download hours during any prior one month period may experience reduced speeds eg if i was on the 1500/256 connection and leeched over 10 gigs How much would the speed be capped ? ------------------------------------------------- Here goes :) As of this moment, there are no speed caps in place (as some people would be fully aware) and we have no current capacity issues on the network. When the speed capping does come into place, it won't be for a "set speed". Data that flows to/from you IP address will simply be given a lower priority, than (for example) a customer who has not yet reached their 10 Gig. This protects those customers who have not reached the soft limit from suffering any adverse performance or latency. Its possible that customers who go over the 10G won't notice the difference. We feel that 10G is a fair and reasonable yardstick for off-peak use. We don't aim to punish a user for going over it, we simply wish to ensure that as many users as possible can enjoy a full internet connection, which is what they have paid for. I hope that's been of some help, its probably the most accurate response I can give before the speed caps come into place Hope that helps. James - Pacific Internet ------------------------------------------------ Another point worth mentioning is that the "shaping" would only occur on some pipes within our network, not your entire connection. Users who were over the 10gbs would be in a pool of other users in that class and they are handled as a group. It is merely to stop them having an adverse affect on all of our other customers and would only be put in to place on pipes that are reaching capacity at peak times (if at all). So for example, even if you were shaped, you could still download (I would imagine) off the mirror servers or any major internal peers at full speed. I do not believe that the exact implementation has been set in stone as such, as there has been no need so far for this to occur in any form. More updates if/as it happens.` Fenn Pacific Internet ------------------------------------------------------
