Hello all. Pacific Internet is in the final stages of testing the new L2TP connection between us and Telstra Wholesale. L2TP stands for "Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol" Those who wish to find the technical specification for this protocol can do so here: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2661.txt L2TP should ensure a more reliable DSL connection. L2TP allows Pacific Internet to control many aspects of your PPP session. Previously this would have been dictated by Telstra. It may allow us to bypass certain known problems that seem to be associated with Telstra's PPP session management Example: Last night there were dataflow issues with DSL in Melbourne. Some customers/staff who connected using L2TP were not affected by this problem. L2TP may also absolve some MTU issues with some PPPoE clients. Connection to Pacific Internet's L2TP service is still via a PPP session. ---- Where your username was: username@aus-dsl.net Change this to : username@dsl.pacific.net.au ---- The password to your service remains the same. There still may be bugs with the way the L2TP service is implemented, and this is why we need further testing by our users. We consider this a BETA service, and it may not work perfectly. We are welcome to change back to using the standard flexstream service at any time. If you cannot connect, or notice certain problems/bugs/oddities whilst connecting please direct feedback to myself (james[at]pacific.net.au). If you notice improvements in your DSL service, we would love to hear about these as well. -- Kind Regards ___________________________________ James Mollison Technical Support Pacific Internet Australia corptech@pacific.net.au T: 13 36 35 (+22) F: 03 9674 7512 http://www.zip.com.au/~j_m/email_disclaimer.txt
